A series of cubic volumes and stairs of concrete gives rise to this house near the beach of Dumas, in the city of Surat, India. On a stone base, the building fuses traditional architectural elements with contemporary ones. Around a central staircase flooded with natural light, it accommodates four generations of the client’s clan, giving each family its own private domain. The shared spaces at ground level spread outward toward the swimming pool. The stacked blocks are strategically arranged to frame views of the surrounding landscape and the Arabian Sea.
