Amador Winery-House in Cacabelos (León)

The project for the Amador Vineyards transforms the ruins of one of few winery-houses still standing in the center of the village of Cacabelos, a municipality in León province along which the French Way of St. James passes. The new program comprises a small guest house for pilgrims, a family house, and a winery tasting room. A new steel-and-timber frame rises amid old stone walls. The east-facing gallery and a deep-set timber frame parallel to it form a layered structure for the facade. The building’s inner core features stairs and skylights with mechanized openings, allowing fresh air to circulate indoors in the summer. A newly built open volume facing south brings the garden-orchard into the interior.
