Ibaraki, a residential district defined by a generic suburban pattern, is located within the metropolitan area formed by the cities of Kyoto, Osaka, and Kobe. The commission for the design and construction of this church for Ibaraki was determined by three essential conditions: a really tight budget, a non-descript urban environment with scattered buildings and, lastly, a reduced-size plot.

The final composition of the building is the unavoidable result of the project’s strict conditions. The architecture is schematic: a simple box shape diagonally cut by a wall that separates the entrance from the single-space worship hall. Due to the budgetary restrictions, the hall is a naked space reduced to the limit, with no ornamental elements, not even heating or cooling equipment. The concrete walls enclose a void nuanced exclusively by light and by textures, occupied only by the pews descending towards the altar.
