The firm Network of Architecture (NIA) – headed by Lukas Rungger and Stefan Rier and based in Bolzano and Berlin – has updated and extended the Zallinger resort, situated in Seiser Alm, a Dolomite plateau in Italy's South Tyrol province. The project adds seven chalets on the premises using vernacular construction techniques, enclosing them with stacked blocks of solid wood and respecting the original plan of 19th-century barns that stood on the site. At the center of the resort stands the old building, which has been given a new restaurant and communal lounge.
