Quincho Moholy, Pucón

Ignacio José Peña Peñaranda

At the foot of the Villarica volcano – located near Pucón, in the Province of Cautín, southern Chile – we find this 42-square-meter construction designed by Ignacio Peña Peñaranda. This addition to the house on the site was commissioned as a place for reflection and meditation amid oak trees. Inspiration came from works of the Hungarian artist László Moholy-Nagy. A cylinder – inclined to allow access – is combined with the straight lines of the walls of exposed concrete that give privacy, divide the space generating a semicircular pool, and separate the public areas from the private ones, while sometimes becoming indoor furniture elements. Existing volcanic rocks are rearranged outside and strike a contrast with the pure geometries of the construction.
