The Beijing-based German architect has presented the design for his first work outside Asia, an apartment tower on one of the main avenues of Vancouver. This skyscraper at 1500 West Georgia is conceived as a series of boxes stacked on top of one another irregularly, forming 56 stories and a total area of 30,600 square meters. Over six levels of underground parking are two floors of public amenities including shops, and then 48 floors containing 235 residential units. To qualify as a sustainable building with LEED Platinum certification, the project includes installations on the roof which are to generate 100% of the energy needed for the public spaces, thus making a significant contribution to minimizing the building’s carbon footprint.
