Aside from the essential objects of Chinese culture, the palace museum treasures a large number of exquisite Asian pieces, among which the Islam’s jade pieces, objects from the Tibetan buddhists, lacquered pieces from Japan, paintings, manuscripts, ceramic pieces and different diplomatic documents which speak of the history of the Asian villages. These collections, most of them brought by the last emperor to the Forbidden City in 1949, turn this institution into a world class one, at level with the British Museum of London. The new extension of Taibo, which complements the museum of Taipei, shall put special emphasis on the pan-Asian nature of the museum and of its collection, as well as on the relationship between all the cultures of the continent. The museum is organized as a free-flowing itinerary, imitating the linear trajectory of ink, full of lyrical traces and strong punctuations. The visitors access a central courtyard from which the visit starts and upon which an artificial mountain representing the museum and the region goes up. The result is a landscape surrounded by water, which emerges from a marble plinth and that is made up by a sequence of bronze-clad galleries... [+]
