On the shore of Moon Lake in the Chinese city of Wuhan’s Hanyang District, this museum built by the Shanghai firm Atelier Deshaus adapts to the natural environment by spreading over the terrain in walk-on-able waves, while part of the exhibition galleries are tucked underground to minimize the project’s visual impact on the landscape. Open to the public, the stepped roof continues the topographic contours, alternating garden areas with stone paths and elevated winding footbridges.
