Paradise has taken many forms over the course of time, but of late tends to be associated with the picture of white-sand beaches and lush forests that look like they have never been stepped on. This is a cliché exploited by the hotel industry, and also in its own way expressed by this rest pavilion located in an idyllic – paradisiacal – spot on the Brazilian coast. Less a pavilion than a shade-house, it is held up by a series of pillars of a certain classic air, and covered with a frame of timber and bamboo whose double curvature makes it resistant to the beatings of the wind, and whose density protects it against the sun without diminishing ventilation. Thanks to its leaf forms, this structure casts an organically shaped shadow which keeps changing, echoing the subtle fluctuations of the surroundings. Water vaporized through a system of tubes hanging from beams nurtures the plants while cooling the atmosphere.
