Grand World Welcome Center in Phu Quoc

The client asked for a bamboo structure embodying Vietnamese culture and symbols like the lotus and the bronze drum. The new Vinpearl visitor center goes up at the center of a large tourist complex, with a building area of 1,460 square meters. The resulting complex is a composition of different geometries built by means of a hybrid structure. Vinpearl’s structural system combines the Arches, Domes, and Grid building systems, developed by the studio through the experience acquired in previous works and the research on bamboo construction. Despite the complexity of the structure, formed by dense layers of interwoven systems, the interior is open and transparent. The light filtered through latticeworks, together with the natural color of bamboo, creates a warm and intimate atmosphere. Ecologically, the project is energy efficient, using only natural and low-cost sustainable materials without any chemical treatments, such as ropes and bamboo pins, to connect the more than 42.000 bamboo culms that make up the structure. No artificial air conditioning is used and artificial lighting is minimized and only used during nighttime.
