The San Isidro plant is one of the sugar factories that was erected just outside Granada in the 19th century. Situated close to an irrigation ditch and surrounded by railway tracks, its sheds speak of the production sequence, with a chain of silos, pools and pulp deposits in between. The project to turn the premise into a community center with 18 movie theaters and facilities for cultural events stresses the horizontal nature of a landscape that remains rural, that changes in color and grade with the seasons. The entire program is accommodated under a low platform that serves to connect different buildings while highlighting the voids between blocks. Aquatic and infrastructural elements once used for the sugar industry are recuperated for promenade and leisure purposes, but the new uses are made to blend in with the surrounding fields...
