House amid pines in Madrid

Olalquiaga Arquitectos

On the outskirts of Madrid stands this one-family resdience, in a 7,000-square-meter property occupied by a forest of pine and holm oak trees. With the idea of preserving these trees, the scheme unfolds on a single level, taking up the maximum area allowed. To this end it is fragmented into three volumes – with large windows and porches – that independently contain the service zones, the communal areas, and the bedrooms. The cube-like separate volumes are connected by glazed bridges and perforated by patios which embrace part of the trees. The material makeup of the house is executed through opaque glass surfaces that reflect the surroundings.
