At Sebastián Elcano 14 in Madrid’s Arganzuela district stands this residential block built by the practice of Fernando Rodríguez and Pablo Oriol. Encompassing a total area of 2,630 square meters, the design adjusts to building codes by limiting the compact volume to a 12-meter-deep bay aligned with the street, giving rise to interior spaces with swimming pools and gardens, while occupying the maximum area allowed; a trapezoidal measuring 22 x 12 meters and rising 14. Inside are 13 apartments, 13 storage rooms, and 32 parking spots in two basement levels. The north facade presents prefabricated slab edges of reinforced concrete interspersed with light panels of fiberglass-reinforced concrete, some of which tilt, acting like shutters.
