Casa Âmago in Ansião

Bruno Dias Arquitectura

On a slightly sloping plot of land in the historic quarter of Ansião, in the District of Leiria, the building is organized in an orthogonal arrangement, striking a contrast with the curves of the courtyards and the slabs of concrete. The Portuguese word Âmago means center and nucleus, and that is the name given to a single-floor dwelling that presents a large patio. The latter is the scheme’s main point, from which the rooms branch out. The entrance is on the east, and the foyer leads to the communal zones: the living room, the kitchen, and the barbecue area. Along this axis are the technical areas and services, a gym, a studio, a bathroom, and the pantry, all of which face a courtyard to the north, benefiting from natural light and ventilation. A furniture element specially designed for the living room conceals the private zone.
