With a built area of 1,720 square meters, the new emergency base for the Government of Aragon’s Health Transport, Civil Protection, and Forest Management Helicopters is located in the aeronautic industrial park of Villanueva de Gállego, 20 kilometers from Zaragoza. The new facilities are close to one of Amazon’s data centers in Aragon, a prefabricated building that it makes references to, as it does to the hangars for ultra-light small aircraft on the airfield.

The program for the base is organized in three distinct areas: a hangar for two helicopters, garages for vehicles used in civil protection and forest fires, and a living area for offices and dormitories. The base is designed to cover the seasonal needs of forest-fire personnel during the summer, as well as the more permanent stays of civil-protection staff.

The building is arranged in accordance with an east-west scheme, with the hangar, the living area, and the garages organized around interior courtyards. The spaces are arranged in a way that considers proximity to the landing strips, prioritizing acoustic comfort.

The building's facade and roof have an uninterrupted metal envelope made of Europerfil panels, installed with dry joints, which unifies the complex. Frames of eucalyptus wood are used in the areas where warmth is required. Lighting is resolved by means of polycarbonate surfaces and openings adapted to visual and ventilation needs.
