Parking in Rentería

The parking garage in the Beraun neighborhood of Rentería, a municipality in the Basque province of Guipúzcoa, presents itself as an urban infrastructure which, though initially built for vehicles to be left in, could be repurposed in the future.

Parking is above ground and there is space for 181 vehicles, and the building is stepped, adapting to the slope of the street. The main entrance is on an upper level, so vehicles descend to the ground-level exit.

Barring the foundation, this public facility went up by means of dry methods. Using the Anro Tech system, the work was carried out with a standardized bolted metal structure thought out to be put together, torn apart, and reutilized. The same applied to the floor slabs, executed with prefabricated concrete pieces to facilitate assembly.

On the other hand, the building’s most characteristic feature is its openwork skin, which makes for constant cross ventilation. Made with the Flexbrick patent, this ceramic membrane goes by the same philosophy of assemblage and montage. The independent pieces generate a pixelated pattern wrapped around the 100-meter-long facade. Built with industrialized systems, the construction stands amid the urban landscape of a working-class district, using four colors close to green and brown.
