15 Works Awarded
The 12th edition of the BEAU (Spanish Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism) chose to commend a group category of fifteen works, divided into five categories. The first one – reconversion projects – included the Cineteca in Matadero by Churtichaga & Quadra-Salcedo, the Museum of Pilgrimages by Manuel Gallego in Santiago, the refurbishment of the Zarzuela Hippodrome by Junquera Arquitectos, the Medialab Prado by Langarita & Navarro, and the new Hertzian Library by Navarro Baldeweg. The second group – protection of the territory – included the plan for the coasts of Galicia and the adaptation of the Roman ruins of Can Tacó, by Toni Gironès. The third – renovation of urban centers –, included the recovery of the Casco Vello of Vigo and the Madrid Centro project. The Campo de Cebada in Madrid and the housing in San Vicente de Raspeig, by Alfredo Payá, were prized as participatory actions, while the office building in Zamora by Campo Baeza, the kindergarten in Pamplona by Pereda & Pérez, the auditorium by Selgas & Cano in Cartagena and the Council of Lalín by Tuñón & Mansilla were distinguished as ‘civic symbols.’
