On Calle Mieses in Valladolid, the Neurocare Home Mieses complex proposes a model for old-age care in the post-Covid 19 era, one which deviates from the idea of floors with a central corridor opening to rooms on the right and left. Instead each floor offers two independent family units organized around a naturally lit plaza-lounge: a well ventilated and generous space that functions like a small town square.

Taking advantage of the proximity to the park, the project engages in an organic interplay of recessed and protruding volumes with large windows, with nature playing a central role in the psychological well-being of the residents. The complexity of the site – a scalene triangle with one curved side – led to a stepped arrangement on the more urban side of the premises, forming an entrance plaza.
