At the center of Coimbra’s university campus, a triangular-shaped parcel bordering a pedestrians-only street in the south was chosen as the location for a student dormitory. With the forest as background, the building joins the silhouette of towers that crowns the university grounds. The rooms are arranged in pairs in a slender prism resting on a low platform and perforated by courtyards, which accommodates the communal facilities, adapting to the angular contour of the site. In accordance with the clear-cut compositional scheme, the sides of the enclosure are clad with concrete blocks which silently highlight the changing surfaces of the building front.
