The flagship store of Tiffany & Co., the luxury jewelry and specialty design house, has reopened on Fifth Avenue in New York City, after completion of its first holistic renovation since opening in 1940. Shohei Shigematsu of OMA did the revamp and three-height addition, and Peter Marino the interiors.

The glass addition on top of the historic limestone construction contains a double-height column-free space for exhibitions and events, and is recessed from the building edge to form a wraparound terrace. The third level of the building’s new crown is used for catering to VIP customers, clad in a mix of flat and curved glass surfaces.

The transformation has rearranged the commercial programs for an improved flow throughout, along a route that features almost forty works of art, including pieces by Damien Hirst and Julian Schnabel.
