The Shanghai-based Original Design Studio has built a museum for the much in demand artist Fan Zeng, born in 1938, in Nantong, to a family devoted to calligraphy, painting, and poetry for thirteen generations. The building’s design presents different contemporary interpretations of the traditional Chinese courtyard. Containing 7,028 square meters of floor space, the square-shaped volume sits on a perforated stone block. A translucent skin rises from this, and is crowned by an abstraction of a traditional Chinese roof. Original Design Studio
