The Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba has officially opened new offices in Shanghai’s Xuhui Riverside district. Designed from the inside out, the building is modular and lightweight, seeking to give an image of openness and transparency. It features an open central public space where the main accessways converge, inviting passers-by to enter.

The design was developed through an algorithm that considers matters like environmental conditions, maximizing views, and adaptation to functional requirements. This results in a wide variety of collaborative spaces that respond to the dynamic structure of the corporate team. All the workspaces have windows that can be opened for natural ventilation. Large terraces with vegetation make it possible for staff to enjoy views in the direction of the Huangpu River and the Pudong business district.
