The New Headquarters of the BBVA is located in an urban expansion area on Madrid’s northern periphery, by the highway and surrounded by new buildings for mainly residential and tertiary uses. With an area of 113,500 square meters, it will be the workplace of 6.000 employees of the bank, and is slated for completion before 2015. Nicknamed ‘La Vela’ (The Sail) because of the silhouette of its tower, the project integrates existing buildings in the complex, which are reused partially, and expressly shows its concern for values like efficiency, sustainability and innovation, choosing elements from traditional Mediterranean architecture: narrow landscaped streets, canopies and facades with brise soleils...
