Carme Pinós (Barcelona, 1954) has inaugurated her pavilion for Melbourne’s Queen Victoria Gardens, which will host various cultural activities through 3 February 2010. Since 2014, each year the Naomi Milgrom Foundation commissions a different architect to design an MPavilion for eventual transfer to a permanent location within the Australian city. The authors of MPavilions to date are Sean Godsell (Australia), Amanda Levet of AL_A (United Kingdom), Bijoy Jain del Studio Mumbai (India), and Rem Koolhass and David Gianotten of OMA (Netherlands). Pinós’s project presents two pieces supported by a central steel structure. The folded roof consists of two large intertwined surfaces of wooden strips, creating an open space. The alterations made on the topography form three mounds, which are used to make tiers.
