The Chinese firm MAD Architects, headed by Ma Yansong, has unveiled its masterplan and architectural design for an ambitious cultural complex with a total built area of 182,000 square meters. Located within the Houhai area of Shenzhen’s Nanshan district, it includes the Shenzhen Science and Technology Museum, the Creative Design Hall, a library, an auditorium, an amphitheater, a viewing platform, and generous garden zones, where footbridges and bicycle lanes interweave between buildings. Described as an urban landscape amid nature, the project includes different program functions buried underground, and green roofs that descend to the ground, forming sunken courtyards. The complex is expected to be completed by 2023.
