Barozzi Veiga  Tab Architects

Barozzi Veiga – in collaboration with Tab Architects, Barbara Van Der Wee Architects, and Mosbach Paysagiste – has con the competition to renovate and enlarge the casino of Knokke-Heist, a municipality in the Belgian province of West Flanders. The new culture and leisure center includes an event space, an art hall, a nightclub, the casino, a restaurant, and a car park. The objective is to restore the building in coherence with the new additions. The project comprises a built-up area of 43,000 square meters and 42,000 of landscaped zones.

The north part, with the glazed facade of the main hall, will be reconstructed in accordance with the qualities of the original design of the Belgian architect Leon Stynen (1899-1990). On the south side, the new extension will reinforce the existing architecture with a fomal language that respects the north side, creating symmetry between the new art gallery and the hall that harbors René Magritte’s mural.
