Located in the Lujiazui financial district of the economic capital of China, the retail store of the eyewear brand JINS is conceived as a large central space free of structural obstructions, making for optimal circulation of customers and flexible presentation of the company’s products. This space is colonized by five display tables, shelves, or counters that cantilever from the wall in an astonishingly gravity-defying way, the longest stretch measuring as much as 12 meters: a gesture explained by the fact that they actually work in the manner of huge prestressed beams of reinforced concrete. They are as thin as they can possibly be, 25 centimeters, so that underneath them are voids that have the effect of reinforcing the general impression of weightlessness that characterizes the shop. The eyeglasses and sunglasses for sale are arranged on top of the parallel beam-tables in rigorous minimalist series.
