The architects Yoon Gyoo Jang and Chang Hoon Shin both studied at Seoul National University. After completing their training in different Korean studios, the team founded its own office, UnSangDONG Architects Cooperation, in the year 2001. Influenced by conceptual art, the partnership bases its projects on the experimentation with space and time.
Conceived as a work of art, the facade of the new Yeh Gallery – commended at the AR Awards for Emerging Architecture in 2007 – is a sculptural canvas built with five folded vertical bands of reinforced concrete, which permit illuminating the exhibition halls through narrow side openings. The control of natural light, along with the use of exposed reinforced concrete and resin panels in the interiors, generate a minimalist atmosphere that is adequate for the display of the gallery’s private collection...[+]
