For a scheme titled '1878-1880' the Pamplona practice of Daniel Galar, Josecho Vélaz, and Javier Gil won the competition to renovate and enlarge Delicias Station, an example of 19th-century iron architecture and engineering, home since 1984 of the Madrid Railway Museum.

Entries were anonymous, coming with mottos, and the jury –which included Víctor López Cotelo and Iñaki Ábalos Sánchez among its members – highlighted the winning proposal's "respectful treatment of the old building's spatial, constructional, and functional aspects, through elements that do not interfere with its architectural qualities, resulting in a synthetic, clear, and orderly solution."

The Navarre team is now tasked to draw up an execution project and take on responsibility for the renovation and enlargement works, the cost estimate for which amounts to 14.5 million euros.

As stated by the Transport, Mobility, and Urban Agenda Ministry, the operation will be carried out in phases. Works on the historical passenger train station can begin once the library and archives are moved elsewhere. The first stage involves restoring the roofs, structure, and facades, transforming the foyer, creating a new entrance, and urbanizing the exterior.

The next phase will involve restoring and consolidating the structure of the canopy over the central shed, and then giving the museum the new fitting-out necessitated by the repositioning of the historical vehicles on display, and by the desire to give them improved protection; all this in addition to redoing the roof, its main frame, and the facades, and the job of urbanizing the north and south exteriors.

The final phases have to do with restoring interior and exterior facades as well as the roofs of the side volumes of the passeger train station, wrapping up with the fitting-out of the zone reserved for the museum's complementary uses. Galar-Vélaz-Gil
