The Village residential development in Playa del Carmen

In Playa del Carmen, a city in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, this apartment block addresses a geographic context rich in vegetation and history, drawing inspiration from constructions of Mayan culture. Integrated into the environment, the residential buildings adopt a stepped form, alluding to pre-Hispanic pyramids and guaranteeing views of the landscape, which reach all the way to the Caribbean Sea. With a maximum height of 12 meters, the modular composition rises on a 4x4-meter grid to harbor dwellings with different layouts, oscillating in size between 80 and 160 square meters. The scheme seeks to reduce the volume’s bulk by setting back the terraces at irregular intervals and different heights. The overall result evokes a ruin covered with undergrowth, incorporating plants into the terraces.
