The firm Kohn Pedersen Fox (KPF) has completed a 400-meter skyscraper in the Houhau District of Shenzhen. Headquarters of the export company China Resources, the office tower is now the city’s third tallest building. Its 56 slender prefabricated steel columns, positioned to afford diaphanous interior spaces, converge at the top and bottom in 28 columns with a structural ‘diagrid,’ a diagonal grid pattern. At the vertex of the high-rise, whose sculptural design is inspired by the shape of a winter bamboo shoot, is an event space 68.4 meters tall. At the base of the tower, the entry portals are placed between triangular glass panels.
