Los Bananos houses in Sayulita

Located in Sayulita, in the southern Mexican state of Nayarit, this residential project consists of two homes adapted to the natural slope of the site. They go by one same architectural language and materiality, but respond differently to the topography and the surroundings, generating distinct spatial experiences within a cohesive design framework. With a subtle rotation in the floor plan, each house interacts with the landscape, framing perspectives of the rolling hills and the sea horizon while maintaining privacy from neighboring properties.

Built with a combination of stucco walls and an exposed structural system, the dwellings seek a balance between raw materiality and refined simplicity. Every unit has three bedrooms and a study, plus ample shared spaces including an open-plan kitchen, dining, and living area. The terraces and rooftop decks make for continuous connection between indoors and outdoors.

A distinctive element of the project is the palapa that crowns each house, a traditional structure interpreted here on a contemporary note, establishing a direct link with the region’s vernacular architecture.
