The studio led by the Mexican Frida Escobedo has completed this residential block in Colonia Popotla, Mexico City. The project ‘folds’ the balconies inwards as private courtyards. This strategy takes inspiration from the traditional courtyard-house proposing different degrees of privacy. In this way, the vertical dwellings, each one completely different from the other, are intertwined both in plan and in section to optimize natural lighting and privacy.
On the outside, the facades of concrete blocks with latticeworks unifies the ensemble. Once inside, the access corridor creates a gathering area for neighbors.
