Ánaz is a locality belonging to the municipality of Medio Cudeyo, in Spain’s Cantabria region, and there, in an enclave near Torreánaz Palace, the architectural practice of Jacobo García-Germán has built this reinterpretation of nearby mountain homes. The compact volume with a pitched roof is slightly elevated to protect itself against torrents while adapting to the slope of the ground. A porticoed smaller construction completes the project.
Combining industrial and traditional techniques, the residence presents bands of exposed concrete, white surfaces of artisan mortar, and black zinc panels on the roof and the west facade, optimizing watertightness in the dominant direction of autumn and winter storms. The north and south sides feature large openings with jamps and lintels of local sandstone.
