Anyang is a dormitory town in the South Korean province of Gyeonggi, located 20 kilometers from Seoul. Surrounded by mountains, it is composed of residential buildings distributed among large green zones. In one of them, Hakwoon Park, rises this pavilion built for the fourth Anyang Public Art Project (APAP), a festival organized by the municipality, held every five years since 2005. Though it looks like the result of knotting a long rope, this huge white chrysalis was built with 18 different kinds of steel arches, set up like links of a chain to form a structure with a height of 4.5 meters and a diameter of 11.5. To stay open in character, the installation is clad only in two areas: on top, a translucent PVC canvas serves as protection against weather inclemencies while filtering in an opalescent light; below, a scheme of rope nets hanging from the two rings of chains form 70 comfortable hammocks. The result is the spirit of a large public hall, entered through a door that comes from removing two links.
