Ever since they crossed paths as students, Fernando Rodríguez (Albacete, 1977) and Pablo Oriol (Madrid, 1977) have shared an infrastructural way of tackling projects, not so much in relation to mechanical logic as in terms of an organizational capacity to take on complex contexts and programs. Convinced as they are that for particular problems there can only be specific solutions, in every commission they set down a different set of rules. This has enabled them to amass an oeuvre defined by an exceptional degree of proactive freedom but united by the full language that is the stuff of the large scale; buildings which are abstract but not abstracted, as shown in these pages.
