In Tadao Ando’s universe, the green apple is the symbol of youth. Not the youth “wasted on the young,” as the playwright Bernard Shaw said, but the one that Ando himself still exudes at 84 years of age. Placed outside several of his buildings, his green apples symbolize the quest for adventure and enjoyment of life. In collaboration with Cauny, the Japanese architect wants to bring that vitality to the day-to-day routines. Available in the green tone of the apples or in a brushed steel that pays homage to his mastery of concrete reflected in his buildings, both versions, green and grey, play with curves, material, and light. Ando evokes the purity of the energy of youth to shape the space, and with this watch, our perception of time.
