Achieving elegance through simplicity, without ornaments or formal excess, is perhaps the most recognizable aspect in the work of the Japanese architect Junya Ishigami. His latest furniture line continues the sinuous and delicate geometries of previous collections, but this time he has chosen to use rougher materials, not so habitual in his palette, such as rattan, wood, leather, and steel, used to weave each one of the pieces, combined in some cases with thin glass sheets. The collection was presented by the Belgian gallery Maniera in the gardens of Villa Bagatti Valsecchi during the Salone del Mobile Milano 2024, though some chairs and tables were designed specifically for projects such as the house and restaurant in Ube, Japan, or for the house, still under construction, that Ishigami is building for his mother.
