A series of abstract compositions with the personal signature of British designer Paul Smith give shape to the new collection of rugs presented by The Rug Company during the latest edition of the Salone del Mobile in Milan. As much the pieces on display, there, the installations in each exhibition space – a circular rainbow prism or a spectral cloud of ribbons, among other features – also took inspiration from the designer’s classic stripes and color combinations. These linear patterns, so recognizable in Smith’s early designs, are an ode to experimentation and to his classics. Some of the pieces comprise over twenty different colors, enriching the Tibetan wool used to weave the rugs, all of which are hand-knotted and dyed with playful pigments, achieving depth of color and faithfully capturing the individual shades in each design.
