The collective journey of Emanuel Christ and Christoph Gantenbein started in architecture school at ETH Zurich in the mid-1990s, a time of renewed optimism following the end of the Cold War and the rise of a global architectural production. Trained in this pivotal moment, Christ & Gantenbein can be seen as representatives of a generation in transition, socialized as architects within a strong local tradition – they studied with such eminent Swiss architects as Peter Märkli and Flora Ruchat-Roncati, and taught with Roger Diener, Jacques Herzog, Marcel Meili, and Pierre de Meuron – but equally conversant in an international discourse and tightly connected within a global network of contemporary practitioners.
