New stadium by Perrault at La Caja Mágica

23/04/2025

The Caja Mágica in Madrid is to be expanded with the construction of a new tennis court with seats for 8,600 spectators, raising the total capacity of the sports complex to about 26,000.

The French architect Dominique Perrault, in charge of the original project for the premises and also of this new expansion phase, has presented the scheme for the new stadium, to be integrated within the current municipal facilities.

This new court will be the second largest in the complex, which will then have a total of four stadiums. The initiative arose as a consequence of the steady growth of Mutua Madrid Open, one of the key events on the international tennis calendar, both for men (ATP Masters 1000) and for women (WTA 1000).

The new stadium will be aligned on the north-south axis, like the others, and will have a built area exceeding 8,800 square meters. Its siting will require a partial reconfiguration of the Tennis Garden lake, as well as topographic adjustments in the adjacent terrain. All in all, the intervention will involve an area of more than 20,000 square meters.

Construction will begin in 2026 and the opening of the fourth stadium is programmed for 2028.
