Born into a family of architects and engineers, Dorte Mandrup (1961) nevertheless started out in ceramics and sculpture, interests in youth that still echo in the importance she gives to form in each and every one of her projects, all of which are capable of complying with a delicate context, a demanding program, or a firm building tradition without sacrificing personal expression. Arquitectura Viva here presents this oeuvre – molded in her Copenhagen studio in simultaneity with a host of academic and outreach commitments – by means of four projects in Scandinavian countries that reflect a keen sensitivity in choosing materials and dissolving them in the landscape.
