Arquitectura Viva 257: Pezo von Ellrichshausen
Essencial Geometries. Mauricio Pezo and Sofía von Ellrichshausen steer their practice with rigid frames out of which a profoundly lyrical architecture comes forth: works where pure geometries and matrix order help them make a link between artistic image and spatial experience. Arquitectura Viva now presents a selection of them – from a large public facility and two houses to a group of pavilions – that shows how life can spontaneously arise also from fixations.
In this issue’s dossier, four European buildings present new constructional uses of wood: the Maritime Center in Esbjerg (Denmark) by Snøhetta and WERK Arkiteker, the Glentleiten Museum Access Building in Großweil (Germany) by Florian Nagler Architekten, the Caisse d’Épargne Headquarters in Dijon (France) by GRAAM Architecture, and the Trinitat Vella Community Center in Barcelona (Spain) by Haz Arquitectura.
In the Art/Culture section, Luis Fernández-Galiano visits the retrospective that Herzog & de Meuron have organized at the Royal Academy of Arts in London, while María Marco walks us through the trajectory of Yayoi Kusama in the heat of three major exhibitions in Europe. And the usual News and Books sections are complemented with a tribute to two recently deceased collaborators and friends, Jean-Louis Cohen and Peter Buchanan.
