Urban Cabinets is a series of home refurbishment projects that explores design strategies around the concept of furniture-architecture. In each project, the custom-made furnishings shape domesticity.

Urban Cabinet Series (1): Domesticities around the table is the first project in a series that tackles the renovation of an apartment built in the 1970s and located in Madrid’s Barrio de Salamanca. The original room fragmentation is suppressed, exposing the structure to favor cross ventilation and recover the terrace. A table is placed across the space, in an indefinite place between programs. Manufactured by hand in multicolored confetti terrazzo, the table top is 3.5 meters long and 1.05 wide and rests on a structure of three pairs of metallic cylinders anchored to the floor, freeing up the space around. The short side of the kitchen is transformed into a reversible closet, countertop on one side and wardrobe on the other and perforated by an oculum to get a glimpse of the space when one comes home. A second table organizes the living room-office as a group study space. Two side supports built in folded sheet metal and a wood board of the maximum standardized length (366 meters) are interlocked, without screws or joints, creating a flexible work surface for the family.
