Conceived as a ‘social condenser’, the tower proposed is placed at the foot of Madrid’s Royal Palace, in the recently recovered banks of the Manzanares River, aiming to become an intermediary element between the city and the park through a stacked, vertical sports program. The complex opens up to the exterior and the lower levels are protected from the rain thanks to the series of ramps and stairs that provide shelter and also carry water. For this reason, all the materials (the building is completed with steel and concrete only) are designed to endure the exposure to the elements, while its textures and finishes – nonslip in humid areas or scarcely porous where more dirt can accumulate – address the functional issues of the program...[+]
