The most recent urbanization processes carried out in China can be described as extremely energetic, and they display technical and spatial advances which often break up with the virtues of conventional configurations. To preserve the garden-city character of Heping district, the site in which these three towers are inserted respects the existing trees and the established plot division. The different heights of the blocks generates a variety of housing typologies, from the loft-like apartments along streets, corridors, or galleries to row dwellings and courtyard-houses.
These three high-rise structures that come together at the top are part of this master plan and go up as landmarks within their natural surroundings. Being so close together allows them to perform as gigantic piers which can support the roof superstructure, that also gives the glass facades an extra protection from solar glare, and thereby more shade – something El Lissitzky probably already had in mind for his famous Cloud-hanger.
