The Australian office Terroir was established in 1998 and simultaneously opened two offices, in Sydney and in Hobart, the capital of the island of Tasmania. Of the three partners of the studio, Gerard Reinmuth is in charge of the first office, whereas Scott Balmforth directs the second. For his part, Richard Blythe combines his academic duties as Head of the School of Design and Architecture at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology with strategic project involvement across both offices. Among their most noteworthy works is the Restaurant in Peppermint Bay, a tourism development on the shores of the Canal d’Entrecasteaux, south of Tasmania, which was selected by Architectural Review Australia as one of the top 100 Australian architecture projects carried out in the last 25 years. A labyrinthian path covers a huge garden and ends in an old oak tree that serves as reference point to organize the different spaces of the building.
