The Cantabrian Maritime Museum (MMC) in Santander was built between 1975 and 1978, following a design by Vicente Roig Forner and Ángel Hernández Morales. The interior is distributed in three floors around a central patio crowned with a vault of concrete paraboloids.
Zooco Estudio has added a restaurant cum terrace to the second floor. The new volume has solved defects that were present in the roof and the facade. The square morphology of this concrete volume resulted from adding four triangles that served to regularize and complete on plan the paraboloids of the original construction. The rawness of this geometry becomes central, framed with trianglular timber false ceilings.
