The world of millionaire homes in Los Angeles defines without a doubt what in our country is a great residence. To get an idea there is nothing better than the films of Blake Edwards. In one of them, Jack Lemmon plays an architect obsessed with Frank Lloyd Wright and dedicated to building villas in the hills, which dominate excellent views of the valley.
The architect is, above all, a carpenter: the eventful conversations with his client take place on the construction site, a raised platform on which a huge wooden cage begins to rise.
In another, Peter Sellers played a spoilsport guest in a luxurious mansion, all spaces and architectures hardly identifiable with the repertoire of a respectable house. The Schnabel house responds to the Californian dream. It is made of wooden frames covered with different sheets. Gehry's fantasy to manipulate and manifest this constructive logic of wood allows him to cover or show, twist, pierce and cover the difficult structure to his liking; even reinvent the Byzantine dome if necessary...[+]
