Pavilion in Luther George Park, Springdale (Arkansas)

Luther George Park – in the heart of Springdale, beside Spring Creek – is a new public space created by the New Orleans architecture office of Trey Trahan, in collaboration with Landscape Architects Spackman Mossop Michaels. Along the park’s central axis rises its most striking feature: the Performance Pavilion.

This sinuous structure is designed to accommodate a wide variety of events. Stretching 45 meters along the main pathway, it takes on a notable presence through the way it is held up at only two points of contact with the ground. Built with 1-centimeter-thick weathering core-ten steel, the pavilion with eventually acquire a nuance-rich patina bound to enrich its twisted geometry.

The visible joints between metal panels reveal the intricacy of the construction, while the strips of lighting systems integrated into it emphasize its dynamic form. The lower part of the pavilion has been carefully thought out to strike a balance between structural integrity and acoustic considerations.
